Why we do it?
In today’s modular market, most systems rely on steel or timber. While both have their place, they also bring inherent challenges, from thermal bridging and corrosion, to moisture sensitivity and limited lifespan. Clay is different, clay is alive, and here is why we build with it.
1. Breathable Comfort
Clay is a naturally porous and breathable material. It absorbs excess humidity, and releases it when the air becomes dry, maintaining a stable, healthy indoor climate all year round.
Unlike steel or timber, which can trap moisture, or require vapour barriers, clay walls regulate humidity naturally, reducing mould risk, and improving air quality.
2. Fire Resistance
Clay is non-combustible; it will never burn, deform, or release toxic gasses.
Where timber ignites and steel weakens under heat, clay remains stable for hours, offering superior fire safety for occupants.
3. Thermal Stability
Clay has high thermal mass, which means it absorbs and stores heat during the day, and releases it slowly at night. This keeps interiors cool in summer, and warm in winter, reducing reliance on mechanical heating and cooling, and lowering energy bills. Our modules typically have a heat loss less than 1 kW.
4. Longevity
A well-built structure can last for centuries. It does not rot, rust, or degrade, even in changing climates.
Where steel needs coatings, and timber needs treatment, clay endures naturally; it is the original low-maintenance material.
5. Sustainability
Clay is an abundant, recyclable, and low-carbon material.
It returns to the earth without harm, and requires minimal processing compared with high-energy steel, or imported timber.
